The Surgeon of the Fever Ship

A young surgeon from the south end of Arran sailed for Sydney in 1837 with his parents, his sisters, his brother and a bride of three weeks. By the time the ship came in under a yellow flag, the fever had taken his father, his mother, a sister and his wife; he was dangerously ill himself, and his brother had been put in irons.
